THE ART OF INTERCESSORY PRAYER AND HOW IT RELATES TO THE PROPHETIC
WHEN WE YIELD TO TO HOLY SPIRIT IN PRAYER, WE MUST LET GO OF OUR OWN AGENDA.
How do we do this? Sometimes it’s a process of elimination. Pray about everything that is on your heart. As you are sensitive to the Spirit, you will find that some things to which you are praying will bring tears to your eyes or you might feel very emotional. Not always, but much of the time that is the Spirit of God accompanying you in your prayer. When this occurs you must continue praying for that subject matter until you feel a release.
It’s hard to explain spiritual processes in the natural because it is not natural. God wants us to pray His will. “Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. “ However, it’s strange to think God needs any help producing His will here on earth. But this is how He set it up.
As we join ourselves to His will and we are in agreement with Him, we become “at one” with Him. “Remain in me, and I in you. Just as a branch is unable to produce fruit by itself unless it remains on the vine, neither can you unless you remain in me.” John 15:4
Many years ago, God put on my heart to pray for our Texas governor to become President of US. When I prayed that prayer, I could feel the Spirit of God so strong and I got emotional. I didn’t personally have much thought one way or another for our governor to become president. I knew he was a Christian, but I wasn’t radically involved in politics.
Nonetheless, God had willed him to be the US President. If I wanted to feel God, all I had to do was pray for him and I would feel God’s presence, because I was flowing in the will of God. I got so excited, being young in the Lord, I told all my friends to pray and see if they did not have the same experience. They did! I would try and pray for other things I wanted God to do, but the presence of God would only remain on the prayer He wanted me to pray. It was so exciting to me.
Later, I learned to look for the witness of His Spirit in all my prayers. When people would come to me for prayer, I often prayed their will as they asked of me. But I didn’t always feel the witness and I knew when I didn’t it was not the will of God or it wasn’t going to come to pass.
Intercessors get a special dose of God when praying His will, and every prophet is an intercessor. But not every intercessor is a prophet. Even in the Old Testament, God’s prophets stood in the gap and prayed the will of God for nations as well as God’s people.
When you yield yourself to be a conduit of the Spirit, many times you will know the will of God and what God wants to do. And this is one of the ways we can know His will: by yielding ourselves to be an intercessor!! ITS A PRIVILEGE AND AN HONOR!!
