We obtain our opinions, our core belief system from mainly 3 sources. OUR DNA-having to do with the weaknesses and strengths of our Ancestry. Even children that are not raised by their birth parents have a common thread of thought patterns.

OUR EXPERIENCES- we base many of our decisions on the history of our lives. What worked for us as well as what didn’t worked for us. We formed options of good and bad.

OUR CULTURE- we learn a pattern of thought based on others around us- what was acceptable and what was not. This includes family, religion, neighborhoods and outside forces such as media: tv, internet, social media. We took on opinions by accepting what was presented.

The Bible says our opinions- the mind-is carnal and at enmity with God. It also says to be carnally minded is death. “ Rom 8:6-8 For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace. Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: ..So then they that are in the flesh cannot please God.” All of our resources of thought come from the CREATIVED and not the CREATOR. I could write so much on this topic, but who wants to read a long post? Ha ha!

So, I will suffice to challenge you. Next time you have an opinion (which will be right about now) ask yourself, why do I have this opinion and how did I conclude that this is correct? Consider the sources I’ve listed. Then ask another question, ”God, what do you think about this? What is your opinion? ”Don’t assume you know the answer. After we are born again, our mind needs to be renewed and it is given the power to be quicken by the Spirit! Jesus said My Words are Spirit and life! The Word of God is sharper than any 2 edge sword and it will divide our thoughts or opinions from the thoughts of the Spirit. It will divide the soul from the Spirit.

Heb4:12 “For the word of God is living and operative and sharper than any two-edged sword, and piercing even to the dividing of soul and spirit... and able to discern the thoughts and intentions of the heart.”

1 Corinthians 2:14-15 shows us that unless the soul is subdued by the spirit and submissive to the spirit, the soul is against the spirit and contradicts the spirit, “But a soulish man does not receive the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him and he is not able to know them because they are discerned spiritually. If we stay in our own head, we get nothing! Soulish implies the meaning of natural or psychological, humanistic.

A soulish man is a natural man, a man living in the soul, deriving all his thoughts from the natural. The soulish man, and the soul itself, cannot understand or receive the spiritual things and even considers the spiritual things foolish. The rational soul is death but we have been born again through the second man Adam (Jesus) and we are quicken- life given spirit, made alive, new creatures, new resources for new thoughts which produce life because it comes from THE CREATOR and not what He created, the soul of men.

That’s why carnality-the soul is death and the Spirit is life. 1 Corinthians 15:45 "And so it is written, The first man Adam was made a living soul; the last Adam [was made] a quickening spirit."

I know it’s a little deep- but you can handle it! Ask yourself more questions and think about your opinions- challenging yourself to be more mindful of His presence in your life!!!! It is an honor to be quicken by His Spirit!!
